By Frank E. Henrich April 10, 2010
I visited the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento, California on Saturday April 10, 2010 with my friend, Jerry
Dorn, while site seeing. It was an added on site to fill out the day but one that turned out very memorable as you will see.
After viewing the brilliance of the stain glass windows, the many beautiful features of the inner structure, we knelt and
silently prayed. I prayed, “I thank your Lord Jesus for the privilege of being here this afternoon and seeing this structure
built to honor You. How can I hold on to this beauty and peace, as we will need to leave soon?” It was shortly later,
while still on my knees, a flash inspiration came to me and I was filled with a knowing. I realized that this chapel was intended
for use by many but I have to build my own individual cathedral that it is a spiritual structure that surrounds me. I knew
then that I had a new story to convey on the web site to tell others all over the world on www.poemsforchrist.com . Yes, tell
them they too should build their own cathedral to God. It was yet a raw idea in my mind but when this happens, I do not rush
an idea that comes in a flash but let it develop slowly.
With this inner excitement I had
no difficulty leaving the church, but I would like to return again to be refreshed by its beauty. After we left the building,
I told Jerry of my thought of how I inwardly realized what a joy it was to me to think about building my own cathedral around
my body. I can have my own cathedral and I can dwell in it the rest of my life. Jerry said to me in response, “This
cathedral you describe is over your body which Jesus said is the temple of the Holy Spirit and quoted the Scripture 1 Corinthians
6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are
not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.”
So with Jerry’s comments the idea was broadened. Oh, yes, a building that is over my body that houses the wonderful
temple of the Holy Spirit.
Would this covering over me be built of wood and hold stain glass
windows? Is this to be a building under which I can hide from the world; made of man-made glitter and fancy wood? Oh no, that
is not the material that forms my cathedral. The covering is more like an unseen aura or essence of a grace filled peace that
surrounds me with an atmosphere of joy while reaching out to be God’s physical force in the life of others. And it is
built for me by God in accordance to His great mercy and love. Will God do this for an unwilling soul? I think not, so such
a cathedral then requires ones desire to serve God with his or her energy, attitude and actions.
You ask how do others see this covering over me? To others viewing it what do they see? It is invisible to earthly sight,
but is a spiritual aura of Christ that is discerned by persons who have hurting souls. Yes, souls who are searching for spiritual
help. A soul in pain is drawn to it like a reindeer is to light. It is this drawing force that brings them forward so that
the person with the covering can apply the salve of God’s love and mercy. Could there be a greater call? Yet it has
no earthly glory or title, so it is shunned by many as unsatisfying. What earthly gain has it? Will it line your pockets with
money? Oh no! But to the eager lover of God, it is a pearl of great price. What goal holds your life? Are you ready to build
your cathedral? For when we build a cathedral over our body we set out to glorify God, by our actions and attitudes and service;
all combined with love which is the honey of life. May your cathedral sparkle with brilliance so that it will always provide
you a home filled with peace and a vehicle to reach out to the weary to invite them into your cathedral, your life! Yes, your
life is your cathedral, build it strong, build it well and when you die leave it as a memory for those who labor in pain.
A service done is never lost – a good deed leaves remnants that are absorbed into the lives of others for when you die,
fear not, you will be in Heaven with Jesus.
So start today, examine your cathedral! One person might
say, “Thanks for reminding me to pay more attention to it.” While another person may say, “I have no cathedral.
God is not important to me.” I say to you, “Oh Poor soul! Oh wasted life! Turn now; turn to building your cathedral.”
Listen to the Scripture when it speaks to you: Matt 6:19-21: “19 Lay Up Treasures in Heaven Do not lay up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures
in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.” NKJV
Tell Jesus you are ready. Get down on your knees
right now and say please Lord build a cathedral over me.
