| SEEK INNER PEACE WITH LIVING GRACE |
By Frank E. Henrich
April 10, 2010
Sometimes the least expected comes upon us and often with force that creates a memory that affect our lives. All this
came within the walls of a very old church.
While site seeing in Sacramento, California
my friend, Jerry Dorn and I visited the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on Saturday April 10, 2010. Although the site was
added at the last minute, the visit turned out very memorable as you will see. After viewing the brilliance of the stain glass
windows, the many beautiful features of the inner structure, we knelt and silently prayed.
I
prayed, “I thank you Lord Jesus for the privilege of being here this afternoon and for seeing this structure built to
honor You. How can I hold on to this beauty and peace, as we will need to leave soon?” It was shortly later, while still
on my knees, a flash of inspiration came to me and I was filled with a knowing. I realized that this chapel was intended for
use by many but I ask God for Him to build my own individual cathedral that it is a spiritual structure that encompasses me.
I knew then I had a new story to tell others all over the world on www.poemsforchrist.com . Yes, tell them they too should
also build their own cathedral to God. It was yet a raw idea in my mind but when this happens, I do not rush an idea that
comes in a flash, but rather let it develop slowly.
With this inner excitement
I had no difficulty leaving the church, but I would like to return again to be refreshed by its beauty. After we left the
building, I told Jerry about my joyful thought of building my own cathedral around my body. I can have my own spiritual cathedral
and I can dwell in it the rest of my life. Jerry said to me in response, “This cathedral you describe is over your body
which Jesus said is the temple of the Holy Spirit and quoted the Scripture 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your
body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought
at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” So with Jerry’s comments
the idea was broadened. Oh, yes, a building that is over my body that houses the Holy Spirit.
Would this covering over me be built of wood and stain glass windows? Is it a building of man-made glitter
and fancy wood where I can hide from the world? Oh no, these are not the materials that forms my cathedral. The fortress is
more like an unseen aura, a grace filled peace that surrounds me with joy.
With this
spiritual happiness, I am empowered to become a servant of Jesus to a needy world. It is built for me by God in accordance
to His great mercy and love. Will God do this for an unwilling soul? I think not, for such a cathedral requires a desire to
serve God with his or her energy, attitude and actions. Reader you ask, “What value is your spiritual cathedral
to others?” I respond, it equips a person to be a minister for God to hurting souls. It is discerned only by persons
searching for help from God. Their soul leads them to make contact and see a remedy. One could describe this like a person
that reached his cold hands toward the warmth of a fire. It is this drawing force that brings them forward so that the person
with the covering can apply the salve of God’s love and mercy. Could there be a greater call? Yet it has no earthly
glory or title, so it is shunned by many as unsatisfying. Will it line your pockets with money? Oh no! But to the eager lover
of God, it is a pearl of great price. Reader, what goal holds your life? Have you asked God to build your cathedral?
When God builds our cathedral, we set out to glorify God, by our actions, service, and attitudes; all combined with love
which is the honey of life. May your cathedral sparkle with brilliance so that it will always provide you a home filled with
peace and a vehicle to reach out to the weary to invite them into your cathedral, your life!
So start today, examine
your cathedral! One person might say, “Thanks for reminding me to pay more attention to it.” While another person
may say, “I have no cathedral. God is not important to me.” I say to you, Oh Poor soul! Oh wasted life, turn now,
turn and build your cathedral! Tell Jesus you are ready. Get down on your knees right now and say please Lord build a cathedral
over me. Listen to the Scripture when it speaks to you: Matt 6:19-21: “19 Layup treasures in Heaven do not lay up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure
is, there your heart will be also.” NKJV
Yes, you can be moved as I was in this old church. Be strong and
reach out to God as He builds a great Cathedral ministry around you.
