WHAT A FRIEND I HAVE IN JESUS

DOES JESUS HAVE THE POWER TO FORGIVE YOU?

OH, YES, READ HIS OWN WORDS ON HIS POWER:

Luke 5:18-26 18 Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. 20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you." 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, "Why are you reasoning in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise up and walk'? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" — He said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." 25 Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. 26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen strange things today!" NKJV

DELIVERANCE PRAYER

(substitute your name and sin where noted)

Lord God, I (your name) have sinned
Against you and need your forgiveness;
I have a sin addiction of (name the sin)
And have tried not to sin but yet sin.

I cannot overcome temptations to sin
Without your help, so please hear me
Have mercy on my soul and help me
And I will avoid circumstances leading to sin.

Please heal me outright so I don't sin,
If not outright send me the help I need
To live a life pleasing to you my God
I ask this Father God, in the name of Jesus.

THE WAY OF GOD

I see a flower with all its loveliness
   I see storm clouds with all their fury
I see a child run to the open arms of a dad
   I sense the cool taste of water after a run.

I sense the yearning to know you Lord Jesus
   From a child this wish has been with me
Yet life with all its injustices drew me away
   Bathe me now with Your presence so pure.

Let my spirit inwardly know of this union
Give me peace amidst the jostles of life
For only when this occurs am I at rest
And Your spirit permeates outward to others.

FINDING HOPE POEM

Hope is help,

In a world full of uncertainty.

Hope is peace

In troubled waters.

Yet, Christian Hope is more

Than help in mere existence,

It is a candle

Burning in the darkness.

In our twenties

Our Hope lies

In the strength of our bodies

Which seem eternal.

In our thirties

Our Hope lies

In our resolve

Yes! I can do it.

Then come the Advent years,

Those years of preparation

For a new Hope

A new candle in the distance.

No longer is the physical body

A Hope.

No longer are great resolutions

A Hope.

No longer is stamina

A trusted resource,

The candlelight of self

Is not so clear.

Then, what is one to do

In those Advent years?

Is there another candle,

A light of Hope upon the horizon?

Yes, it is the Light of Christ.

It is not dependent upon us.

It stands as a strong beacon,

A Hope that is a helpful trust.

You say, “I can’t see it!

I’m looking

But I can’t see it.

Where, where is this?”

The Light of Christ radiates Hope

That warms a life with Joy.

It can only be seen

When light of self is diminished.

During this Advent season

When we meditate on Christ’s birth,

Let us ask Jesus

What would please Him?

Could it be that

Jesus would say to us,

“Search and find my Advent Candle

That lights a Hope for you?”
