"Too many of us are spiritually flabby, often avoiding spiritual conflict instead of facing it. That was certainly not the apostle Paul’s style, nor was it John Monsell’s. Monsell was a gifted Irish clergyman who could hold his congregation spellbound as he spoke. He had an enthusiastic and charismatic personality and a quick wit, and he advocated "more fervent and joyous" singing in his church. He once told his congregation, ‘We are too distant and reserved inour praises.’" This is a quotation (page 668) from the most excellent book titled The Complete Book of Hymns by William J. Petersen and Ardythe Petersen. I highly recommend this book for your devotional reading.
