EYES OF LOVE

THE EYES OF LOVE

By Frank E. Henrich July 2, 1985

People object to us
When we are what we are
Because we are what we are
And therefore act and react to them
In a way fitting to what we are.

Since they are not as we are
They find our actions and reactions
Grinding against the way
  They do and think.

Do I have to be someone I'm not
  To have harmony with others
Or are they to learn to accept me
  For what I am?

Perhaps it must be a compromise
A dash of each seasoned with love
But I have learned when you're not really
  What you are -- you're a hypocrite.

For I have been told
  It not natural living
No peace, no hope
  Just a cynical mess.

So a dash of being
  What you aren't
Just to please others
  Doesn't feel right.

Could they accept me
  For what I really am?
What would it take
  To entice them to care?

They say that the root of caring
  Is loving someone else,
If that be true, how can I get them
To look upon me with caring eyes?

Eyes that come aglow
  When they meet mine,
Eyes that speak of warmth
  When first our eyes entwine.

Oh, yes! I'm getting excited
  This is what I want
I want to be myself
  Yet Live in harmony.

Oh! How can I get them
  The ones different from me
To give me caring
And love me as I love them.

Love them?
  Do I love them?
Do I send an eye message
To them of love and caring?

You must be kidding
  You mean, I can't expect
Them to do,
  What I'm not doing?

I've heard it said
  It takes an unusual person
To still love and care for another
  When it is not returned.

Oh, this has been my problem
The eyes of love and care
That have come my way
  Met not love in mine.

Instead they received
  A message of, yes
You need to love me
  I'm important.

For as knowledge puffs up
  A pin can burst
But real love builds up
  A strong foundation.

For as knowledge gives excuse
  For people to separate
Love is the medium
  That binds with care.

Oh! Jesus help me to care
Yes, help me to love them
So they can find in me
A love and care for them.

Then people won't object
When I am what I am
And life can have a joy
  And a harmony for me.
